Women of Magdalene by Rosemary Poole Carter

Rosemary Poole Carter wrote, among other books, Women of Magdalene. This story is a work of art. Ms. Carter takes the reader to post-civil war Louisiana with all its colors, flavors, and prejudices on display. The story is dark, and the characters haunted me for weeks after I finished the book. I can most definitely recommend this book. I'm already building a Poole-Carter collection with the purchase of Juliette Ascending and fully intend to acquire What Remains.
